Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazard: (a) Employee(s) were exposed to crushing hazard from falling jib boom rated at one ton that collapsed while lifting approxi- mately 400-pound load, southeast corner of shop area, crane lifting load had not been tested to verify its capacity. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be having the jib boom inspected and load tested by a qualified engineer and implementing an inspection program recommended by ANSI B30.11-1988 (Chapter 11-2).
