Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to seriou s
electrical burns and/or death from energized terminals and conductors when
moving in front of or passing in close proximity to open electrical
apparatus at the following locations:
(a)  Farrowing, pent, nursery and finishing houses electrical branch
panels were not provided with covers.
(b)  At base and on the north side of each of the harvestore silos,
electrical motor control starters were not provided with covers.
(c)  Wash room, farrowing, pent, nuursery and finishing houses,
switch and receptacle outlet boxes were not provided with devices
and/or covers.
(d)  Pent and farrowing houses, duplex receptacle outlet devices wer e
broken and hanging out of the boxes.
(e)  Pent, farrowing, nursery and finishing houses, toggle snap
switches and receptacle outlets were not provided with face plates.
(f)  Pent,  farrowing, nursery and finishing houses, junction boxes
not provided with approved covers.
(g)  East side of nursery house adjacent to entrance, the 10" X 12"
junction box was not provided with an approved cover.
(h)  East side of nursery, north farrowing and finishing houses,
individual  conductors were not protected from damage.
(i)  West pent house, the Westinghouse Refrigerator was not properly
grounded in that, it was connected to electrical power by means of
a two wire cord and plug.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods to correct thes e
hazards are as follows:
(a)  Install covers on all electrical branch panels as required by
NFPA No. 70-1978, Article 110-17(a)
(b)  Install covers on motor control starters as required by NFPA
No. 70-1978, Article 110-17(a).
(c)  Install a device and/or cover as required by NFPA No.70-1978,
Article 370-15.
(d)  Replace damaged receptacle outlets as required by NFPA No. 70-1 9
Article 110-17(a)
(e)  Install covers on all toggle snap switches and receptacles as
required by NFPA No. 70-1978, Article 370-15.
(f)  Install covers on all junction boxes as required by NFPA No.
70-1978, Article 370-18(c).
(g)  Install a weatherproof cover on the 10" X 12" junction box as
required by NFPA No. 70-1978, Article 370-18(c)
(h)  Completely enclose all conductors in suitable raceways properly
connected to enclosures as required by NFPA No. 70-1978, Articles
320-14 and 370-7.
(i)  Properly ground the Westinghouse refrigerator as required by
NFPA No. 70-178, Article 250-45.

exposed to risk of infection and/or serious disease from being
exposed to dead pigs, trash and other debris scattered in a storage
building behind the farrowing house and  various other locations
throughout the hog farm operations:
(a)  Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to
correct this hazard would be to develop and implement a strict
sanitation program for the proper storage and timely disposable
of dead animals.
