Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck on or chips flying into their eyes while operating a brush chipper and chainsaws during tree trimming and flat clearing operations: a) Tree Trimming and Ground Clearing Site, Fairton, NJ Employees operating a brush chipper and chainsaw on or about 12/9/93 were not provided safety glasses nor were safety glasses worn by employees. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is: Provide and insure the use of eye protection as required by ANSI Z133.11982, Safety Requirements for Tree Care Operations Pruning, Trimming, Repairing, Maintaining and Removing Trees and Cutting Brush.

One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is: 1. Provide Safety Chaps for employee use as required by ANSI Z133.11982, Section 3, Safety Requirements for Tree Care Operations Pruning, Trimming, Repairing, Maintaining, and Removing Trees and Cutting Brush.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being caught in chain and sprocket wheel on aerial lift during tree trimming operations: a) Tree Trimming and Ground Clearing Site, Fairton, NJ Employees operating ASPLUNDH truck mounted aerial lift exposed to chain and sprocket on both ends of lower boom which had guards removed. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is: 1. Perform daily inspections and operational checks and to guard all mechanical powertransmission apparatus in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.219.
