Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
a)InPress Marketing, Bldg. #3, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Freight elevator #5
On or
about 2/1/94 and at times prior to this, employees were exposed to the
hazard of
being struck by the moving elevator car and to falls down the elevator
hoistway.
ABATEMENT NOTE:
Among others, a feasible method to eliminate this hazard is to comply
with ANSI/ASME
A17.31990, Section 2.7.1(b), and provide electric interlocks for the
shaftway
