General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) November 27, 1989, approximately 6 employees were exposed to chlorosilanes and chlorobenzene. The materials were relased from a pipe inside the asbestos containment in Building 21. The exposed employees suffered skin burns and chronic upper respiratory distress. The pipe had been flushed, however, the company failed to protect against exposure to residuals from condensation of vapors.
