Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employees sandblasting a tank painted with lead containing paint were exposed to the hazards of lead posioning and not medical survilance nor biological monitoring conducted to determine the extent of their exposure. (1) An employee sandblasting under the bowl of the tank was exposed to 242 micrograms of lead per cubic meter of air. Sampling was conducted for 215 minutes on 04/24/91. Alternative standard: 1910.134(b)(8): 29 CFR 1910.134(b)(8): Appropriate surveillance of work area conditions and degree of employee exposure or stress was not maintained: (a) An employee sandblasting under the bowl of the tank was exposed to lead at a time weighted average of 242 micrograms per cubic meter of air. Sampling was conducted for 215 minutes on 04/24/91. No medical survilance program and biological montoring was provided to the employee.
