SECTION 5(A)(1) OF THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT OF 1970: THE EMPLOYER DID NOT FURNISH EMPLOYMENT AND A PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT WHICH WERE FREE FROM RECOGNIZED HAZARDS THAT WERE CAUSING OR LIKELY TO CAUSE DEATH OR SERIOUS PHYSICAL HARM TO EMPLOYEES IN THAT EMPLOYEES WERE EXPOSED TO DANGEROUS SNAGS: A) CAMP 14 TIMBER UNIT - ON OR ABOUT NOVEMBER 20, 1990 AN EMPLOYEE WAS FALLING A TREE WITHIN HIS STRIP WHICH WAS WITHIN CLOSE PROXIMITY OF A DANGEROUS SNAG. THE SNAG WAS NOT REMOVED PRIOR TO FALLING TREES WITHIN THE STRIP AS REQUIRED BY THE IDAHO MINIMUM SAFETY STANDARDS AND PRACTICES FOR LOGGING, CHAPTER "H", STANDARD 18, SECTION 1(H). AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO REMOVE DANGEROUS SNAGS PRIOR TO LOGGING A STRIP.
