Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard of electrical shock or burns: (a)M/V Lafayette: The duplex electrical receptacle in the ship's passageway was not grounded when tested with a Woodhead electrical tester. One economical and feasible method of abatement would be to remove and properly rewire the receptacle. (b)M/V Lafayette: In the engine room, fluorescent lights missing covers that are less than seven feet. Employees were exposed to possible electrical shock or burns in the event of accidental contact without protective covers. One economical and feasible method of abatement would be to replace the missing covers.
