Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employees were exposed to a crushing hazard in the event of unexpected descent of a hydraulic vehicle lift after a hydraulic system failure. One feasible and acceptable method of abatement would include, but not be limited to, conformance with ANSI Standard B153.1-1990, Section 4.4.2, with the installation of a positive locking device, crib or block, that would prevent movement of the lift in the event of hydraulic or system failure.c
