Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Facility; Employees were exposed to two falling metal grates in that the metal grates (approximate weight 2,950 lbs.) were not properly secured in position as they were being worked (welded) on. The two metal grates were leaning against a metal table. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to have secured the two metal grates onto welding positioners and then have positioned the metal grates to the desired position to be welded on.
