free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to to
the hazard of lead:
(a)  Highway 5 Overpass Bridge at I-20 -  An employee shot blasting lead
based paint from an overpass bridge was exposed to airborne lead in excess
of the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL).  This exposure was approximately
14,944.83 micrograms per cubic meter (UG/M3) which is 298.9 times the PEL
of  50 UG/M3.  This exposure was derived from five (5) air samples
covering
370 minutes.  An exposure of zero (0) was asumed for the remaining 110
minutes which would account for an eight (8) hour exposure period.
Chronic
overexposure to lead may result in severe damage to the blood-forming,
nervous, urinary and reproductive systems.
