Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: %% The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employees required to use automotive car lifts to raise automotive-type vehicles without the benefit of a safety device that, in case of failure of either the prime mover or the suspension system, will automatically support a load with a safety factor of 3 based on the rated load capacity. The safety latch was defective and/or inoperable on or about 6-10-92. Reference ANSI B153.1-1974. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to repair safety latch in accordance to ANSI B153.1-1974.
