Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:
The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which
were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were
exposed to:
(a) The hazard of fire and explosion on or about Sept. 12, 1991 at
M & H Gas Company, 625 1st Ave. N. Great Falls, Montana.
AMONG OTHER METHODS ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO:  Provide and implement written procedures
for working on sump pumps such as but not limited to:
(a) Monitoring the sump pump enclosures for flammable and explosive
vapors.
(b) Ventilation of the sump pump enclosures.
(c) The use of non sparking tools.
(d) The use of static control wrist straps.
(e) Training employees in the hazards of flammable and explosive
atmospheres and the proper procedures for eliminating such hazards
prior to beginning work.
(f) Provide visual and audible explosive alarms.
(g) Provide Halon system units for fire protection.
