Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) At the Sandingmaster Auto Sander - On or about March 30, 1993 and at times prior thereto, the ventilation system to the Sandingmaster Auto sander was not equipped with an explosion suppression and prevention system. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: 1. Install explosion venting and dampers. 2. Install a spark detection and extinguishing system. 3. Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program for the system to include periodic ventilation measurements and test of the protective system.
