Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
the hazard of electrical shock or burns and/or electrocution.
a) Aboard the Prince George on the boat deck, port side fan room, the
120-220 volt electrical box had its cover (dead front) removed. This
condition exposed employee(s) to the hazard of coming in contact with
live electrical parts.
b) Aboard the Prince George, in the Sewage treatment plant, there were
three breaker boxes, 120-220 volt that were not equipped with a dead
front. This condition exposed employee(s) to the hazard of coming in
contact with live electrical parts.
c) Aboard the Prince George, deck "d", the circuit breaker box located
in the crew quarters area, port side, cargo door area was not
equipped with a dead front. This condition exposed employee(s) to
the hazard of coming in contact with live electrical parts.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to bring electrical problem up to current
National Electrical code standards by replacing the dead front
(faceplate).
