Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
the hazard of electrical shock, thermal burns, and electrocution.
a) M/V Aleutian Falcon:  Employees on the port aft processing deck had
occasion to use the 120-volt electric Ridgid 300 pipe threading
machine that had the ground prong removed from the male plug. Lack
of ground prong could subject the employees to the potential hazard
of becoming a direct source to ground resulting in shock, burns
and/or electrocution.
Among othe methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement methodto
correct this hazard is to purchase a new plug with a ground prong and
properly install it on the grinder.
