Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to: Hot Water Burns
J. Frost Lease off FM 1450 Coyanosa, Tx.  (Truck unit # 62):  A well
servicing contractor (Hot
Oiler) attached a 14-foot section of iron pipe to the BOP on the well
head. One end of a 50-foot
section of flexible hose was attached to this pipe with a hammer-type
connector.  The other end
of the flexible hose was attached to the back of the hot oil truck with
another hammer-type
connector.  The water inside the truck was heated up to approximately 280
degrees with a
maximum pressure of 500 psi then pumped down the well hole. Employee(s)
working for the
service rig and the employee operating the hot oil truck were exposed to
hot water burns caused
by accidental disconnection of the flexible hose from the iron pipe
connection
or from the truck
connection. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this
hazard would be to
attach a safety chain to pipe and hose
