Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard or being infected by Herpes Simplex, Neisseria Meningitudues, and other infectious diseases through possible direct contact with saliva: A) Establishment: Nurses potentially performing a mouth-to-mouth resuscitation during patient emergency, such as a heart attack, have not been provided with a protective barrier to prevent contact. NOTE: Abatement may include but is not limited to emboui bags or mouth- to-mouth resuscitation masks to be easily accessible. Employees are to be trained in use of barrier protection and equipment use.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being infected by HBV, AIDS and other infectious diseases through possible direct contact with blood or other body fluids such as blood contaminated urine and feces: A) Establishment: Nurses, Nurse's Aids and Laundry personnel handled soiled linens which weee placed in unmarked bags and then removed prior to laundrying. NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement to correct this hazard is to place soiled linens into leakproof meltaway bags color coded red for placement into washing machine. Employees shall be trained on their use including the meaning ofcolorcoding.
