Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The

employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed
to working conditions and recognized hazards of being overcome by excessive
levels of carbon monoxide gas while performing buffing operations:
(a)  Ro Jack Supermarket, North Attleboro MA:  Employees were
subjected to excessive levels of carbon monoxide gas emminating
from an improperly tuned propane operated Honda buffing machine.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct
this hazard is to institute an extensive maintenance program and
frequent tune ups of the buffer motor which should reduce the
emmissions of carbon monoxide gas to levels well below the maximum
permissible levels of 50 parts per million over an 8 hour time frame.
