Section5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees in the soil sort and the washroom are exposed to the hazard of being infected with Hepatitis B or other blood borne disease through possible direct contact with blood or other body fluids. Feasible and useful abatement methods for reducing this hazard, among others, are: A) Offering the Heptitis B vaccine to all employees in the soil sort and washroom departments who handle soiled linen, at no exponseto them. B) Developing an effective needle-stick follow-up program, where any employee stuck by a needle or contaminated sharp is strongly encouraged to be evaluated clinically and proper follow-up procedures used. C) Implementation of an effective training program in infection.
