employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing of likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
the hazard of cytotoxic (antineoplastic) drugs which could result in
chromosomal damage and teratogenisis (malformation) as well as
carcinogenesis (cancer induction).
a) Pharmacy technicians who prepare cytotoxic drugs in the pharmacy
and/or pharmacy satellite were not trained as to the health risks
associated with cytotoxic drugs or in the proper spill procedures.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement is
to train the affected employees in the health risks and spill procedures
associated with cytotoxic drugs.
