Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to the hazards of a falling hoist load or hoist hook block. a) Main Shop: The 7 1/2 ton overhead underhung crane hoist was not provided with a means to prevent the load hook from exceeding the upper limit of travel while lifting concrete stairs and tanks. b) Flow Shop: The 5 ton overhead underhung crane hoist was not provided with a means to prevent the load hook from exceeding the upper limit of travel. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide a functional top limit switch.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1770: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to the hazards a falling hoist load: a) Flow Shop: The hoist brakes of the 5 ton overhead underhung hoist were not adjusted so as to be capable of arresting and holding the rated load of the hoisting unit.
