Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that an employee was exposed to the hazard of being crushed while being drawn through the draw works after the equipment suddenly accelerated: TENNACO GAS PIPELINE, NEAR ROUTE 83, EAST LONGMEADOW, MA: ON SEPTEMBER 5, 1990, AN EMPLOYEE STARTED THE PONY MOTOR OF A CATEPILAR SIDE BOOM MACHINE, #225 SHEEHAN CO., WHILE IT WAS IN GEAR AND WHILE STANDING ON THE TRACKS. ONE FEASIBLE METHOD OF CORRECTING THE HAZARD IS TO RETRO-FITTHE EQUIPMENT WITH AN ELECTRIC START AT THE OPERATOR'S SEAT.
