employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed
to falling through the foundry roof during cleanup and maintenance
operations.
ON AUGUST 15, 1990, WORKERS INVOLVED IN SOOT CLEAN UP FELL THROUGH A
DETERIORATED ROOF SECTION.
A FEASIBLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO PROVIDE FOR A COMPLETE
INSPECTION OF THE ROOF AREA TO DETERMINE DETERIORATED SECTIONS AND TO
PROVIDE FOR REPAIR OF THE SECTIONS PRIOR TO PERFORMING MAINTENANCE WORK
ON THE ROOF.
