Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: A) Top floor of number 3 power boiler; Employee was not wearing a safety belt attached to a lifeline while working on a 10 inch beam repairing a motor coupling for the back bin spreader. Employee exposed to a fall of 21 feet, 10 inches, opening measured 2 feet and 18 inches by 9 inches. Feasible and useful abatement methods for reducing this hazard among others are: 1) The use of a safety belt harness and lanyard assembly meeting all applicable requirements of ANSI A10.14.
