Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to the hazards of being struck by the falling sand bucket of the sand elevator in the event of the failure of the wire rope cable having broken strands of wire: (a) Foundry, Sand Muller Section: The wire rope cable of the sand elevator had broken strands of wire. One feasible method to correct this hazard is to replace the defective wire rope cable and inspect the wire rope cables of the sand elevator monthly thereafter.
