Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to: The hazard of being crushed by a vehicle under the mechanical lift by not having a braking device in place that causes the lift to be automatically braked if the suspension is broken or slackened and will keep the lift from falling. Among other methods one feasible means of abatement is to repair and/or replace the locking shaft which was removed from the hoist-machine shaft and to ensure the lift is in compliance with ANSI (American National Standards Institute) / ALI (Automotive Lift Institute) B153.11990. %%
