Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to THE HAZARD OF IN-RUNNING NIP POINTS/OR BEING CAUGHT BY MOVING BELT: a)On or about 5-11-00, in the tire storage area: On the tire conveyor machine the conveyor belt and the drive wheel were not guarded, exposing employees to a nip point hazard. ABATEMENT NOTES: 1.Provide guard along the bottom of the conveyor to prevent accidental employee contact with in-running nip points. 2.Follow the requirements of American National Standard for Conveyors & Related Equipment (ANSI B20.1 - 1976), Section 5.11.2.3. Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
