Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by the load should the overhead hoist or the "below- the- hook" spreader bar fail: a)On or about 5-24-00 through 5-25-00, in the Slitter Area: The below the hook lifting device for the Stra-1-Load hoist did not have a load rating in accordance with ANSI/ASME B30.20. The employees were exposed to a struck by hazard should the device fail. b)On or about 5-24 through 5-25-00, in the Machine Shop: The support structure for the CM 632 chain hoist did not have a load rating in accordance with ANSI/ASME B30.17. The employees were exposed to a struck by hazard should the support structure fail. Abatement certification must be submitted for this item. Among other methods, several feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct each of these hazards are to: Mark the rated load capacity of the lifting device and the support structure or equivalent in accordance with ANSI/ASME B30.20SME
