Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Hydro Area: A shank hook installed on an one-half ton Coffing hoist had a defective latch, exposing employees to falling loads. This particular hoist was used to lift and move wellheads that weighed about 200 to 300 pounds. One feasible and accepted method of abatement would be to re-enforce the education of employees using the hooks to alert supervisory personnel or maintenance to a defect, and to discontinue use.ontinue
