Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to fire/smoke:
a) Plant
Employees exposed to the hazard of fire/smoke, due to the fire department
not being notified
immediately that the fire sprinkler system was shutdown, as required by
National Fire Protection
Association, NFPA I, sect. 7-5.1, which is one feasible and acceptable
method of abatement.
This is also required by the New Jersey State Uniform Fire Safety Act,
5:18-3.4(b)(1).
Violation occurred on or about 09/13/95 through 09/14/95

Employees were exposed to the hazard of fire/smoke when they traveled
approximately 300 feet
to exit the building.  They exceeded the 200 feet (without fire
suppression system) required by
the BOCA National Building Code/1984, Section 807.0 which is one feasible
and acceptable
method of abatement.
Violation occurred on or about 09/14/95.

Employees exposed to the hazard of fire/smoke, for a period of 15 hours,
due to the sprinkler
system being shut down, were not evacuated or protected by an approved
Fire Watch, after the
first 4 hours that the sprinkler was down, as required by National Fire
Protection Association,
NFPA 101 sect. 31-1.3.6, which is one feasible and acceptable method of
abatement.
Violation occurred on or about 09/13/95 through 09/14/95
