Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of working under an elevated vehicle on a Weaver semi-hydraulic lift without first having the lift secured from unexpected failure by means of mechanical safety devices: a) Garage/Service Area; Weaver double post semi-hydraulic automotive lift used to elevate vehicles was not equipped with an automatic mechanical safety device that would hold the elevated load in place in the event of a hydraulic or catastrophic (suspension system) failure. Among others; acceptable and feasible abatement methods include the retrofit of this lift with the appropriate automatic safety device to hold the fully extended load in place in the event of a hydraulic failure or suspension system failure.
