Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Palletizing Conveyor Belt; Employees who stand on rollers of the conveyor system to clear blockages are subject to injury from falling off the rollers or falling in between the space between the conveyors. In addition, employees are exposed to head injury from low steel beams and sprinkler pipes. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is install guardrails to the outside edge of the conveyors, pad and highlight low objects, add mushroom shut-of switches, train employees and follow ANSI B-20.1.
