The employer is not limited to the abatement methods suggested by OSHA;

the methods explained are general and may not be effective in all
cases; and the employer is responsible for selecting and carrying out
an effective abatement method.
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which
were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were
exposed to:
At this location PVC pipe was used in the paint and body shop
for the transmission of compressed air.  PVC pipe is subject
to failure and/or shattering when exposed to such high pres-
sures as used with compressed air.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement
method to correct this hazard is to install metal piping
approved for the service.
