conditions and procedures followed by employees could expose employees to
an oxygen deficient
atmosphere:
a.Production Area - Working conditions and procedures associated with the
liquid
nitrogen freezing of a thermoplastic urethane elastomer prior to the
grinding
operation exposed the worker to potentially dangerous oxygen deficient
atmosphere.
Abatement note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement
method
to correct this hazard is to alter the working conditions and procedures
to include a
closed system for the liquid nitrogen freezing operation with a discharge
chute to remove
the frozen resin for the grinding operation which would then remove the
potential for the
worker to be exposed to an oxygen deficient atmosphere.
