Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falls while walking/working at elevated locations without fall protection: a. Jobsite - Employees walking across and working on the steel girders were not protected from falls of up to approximately 21 feet into the northbound lane of Interstate 89. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install and enforce the use of static lines, safety harnesses and double lanyards when employees are exposed to fall hazards.
