Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:
The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment
which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely
to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that
employees were exposed to potential hazards of fires and/or
explosions due to dust collection system not being designed,
constructed, and maintained according to established safety and health
standards.
a. Panel Saw Area - Employees working in areas served
by the dust collection system were exposed to fire
and/or explosion hazards due to the dust collection
system not being designed, constructed, and maintained
properly, such as inadequate collection capacity
resulting in dust buildup in the ducts and lack of a fire
detection and suppressant system when air is
recirculated back to the work area.
ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and
acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to design,
