Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that on and before 5/14/93, an employee was exposed to the hazard of broken bones, internal injuries, or death from falls while standing on a bridge pier installing X bracing under a bridge. Feasible methods of abatement may include, but are not limited to, the use of fall protection systems such as static and/or catenary lines in conjunction with safety belts and lanyards, nets, aerial lifts, scizzors lifts, catch platforms, and scaffolding.
