Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire and/or explosion: (a) Woburn Nursing Center: On 10/30/92, employees were exposed to serious injury resulting from possible fire and/or explosion when opening the gas valves to pressurize newly installed gas lines. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to adopt a procedure to verify that a pressure test of the piping system is done before gas is admitted to the system.
