Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The

employer did not furnish employment and a place of employement which
were free from recognized hazards that were causig or were likely to
cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees
were exposed to the hazard  coming into contact with chemotherapy drugs
and waste during handling and transport of chemotherapy waste and
lanudry.  Among other methods feasible and acceptable abatement methods
to correct this hazard are:
(a)  Train employees who are required to handle chemotherapy
waste and laundry on the hazards associated with chemotherapy,
peraonal protective equipment, work practices dicontamination,
spills, and medical policies.  Include employees who transport
waste in training.
(b)  Label laundry contaminated with chemotheraply drugs and
blood, vomitus, or excretia from a patient who has received
chemotherapy within the past 48 hours.  By labeling laundry
employees who transport laundry and employees who wash laundry
will be able to identify bags with chemotherapy contamination
and will be able to take precautions.
