Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to possible amputation: (a)Fabrication Area - Chicago and Cincinnati press bakes did not have a guard on the foot pedal. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to fabricate a metal guard to cover the foot pedal. OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Machine guarding was not provided to protect operators and other employees from hazards created by unintended activation of a foot pedal: (a)Fabrication Area - Chicago and Cincinnati press bakes did not have a guard on the foot pedal.
