Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: %% The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to broken bones and multiple injuries: (a) Lumber Storage Shed - Underhung hoist with a single girder bridge did not have the rated capacity marked on the crane. The spreader bar used in connection with the crane was not marked for rated capacity, and the U-bolts were installed with the U part on the live end of the 5/8 inch cables that did not have thimbles in the eyes. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO INSTALL THE RATED CAPACITY ON THE CRANE AND THE SPREADER BAR ALSO INSTALL THE U BOLTS ON THE CABLES WITH THE U PART OF THE BOLT ON THE DEAD END OF THE WIRE ROPE.
