Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The hazard of being caught between the moving parts of an escalator and mail carts Location: 250 North Street White Plains NY 10625 - East Wing On or before 5/11/95, a) The employer did not follow the rules published by the Elevator/Escalator Safety Council by allowing employees to transport mail carts on the escalators. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THE HAZARD IS: To follow the rules published by the Elevator/Escalator Safety Foundation in their publication entitled "National Elevator Escalator Safety Awareness Week" which states: 1) "Passengers only on escalators. No strollers, walkers or carts of any type". 2) "Use elevators instead of escalators when pushing a cart, stroller or walker, or when carrying packages".
