Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to falls while riding elevators to derrick platform:
On September 11, 1994, an employee of Sooner Drilling Company fell to his
death while riding
the elevators up to the derrick platform. Feasible abatement method(s) to
correct this hazard may
include, but not limited to:
1) Stop employees from riding elevators.
2) Attach ladder climbing device for employees to use.
3) Attach cable from ladder to derrick platform so employees can use a
belt and lanyard to tie
off while moving from ladder to platform.
