Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: %% Employer's facility required additional preventative maintenance measures for continued workplace safety as follows: (a)Reef Tank Service Platform There is severe cracking of the concrete platform and its structural steel supports have corroded. (b)Reef Tank Walkway On the corner by the snack bar a piece of concrete slab approximately 5 ft. long, 3 to 8 inches deep, 8 ft. above ground level has cracked and partially separated. (c)Main Tank and Reef Tank Walkways The elevated concrete slab walkways around the main tank and the reef tank have cracked and there is corrosion of the supporting structural steel members. (d)Main Tank The concrete ring beam around the main tank has longitudinal cracking around its perimeter. Among Other methods feasible and acceptable abatement methods include: (1)Remove the concrete slab at the corner of the snack bar reef tank walkway. (2)Repair damage at the reef tank service platform. (3)Contact a registered structural engineer and require a facility inspection, evaluation, and preparation of a report in regard to the structural integrity of all elevated walkways and supporting members. The structural engineer should provide specific recommendations fro the retrofit of the distressed member to support the anticipated loads in accordance with generally accepted engineering practices. (4)Provided a copy of the structural engineer's report and recommendications to the Jackson OSHA Area
