Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
Explosion and fire hazards created by natural gas lines located at ceiling
level that were not
identified or labelled as to the contents.  The gas lines ran through
manufacturing areas in the
plant.
Feasible abatement methods to correct this hazard may include, but are not
limited to:
a)  Positive identification of the contents of the piping system by
lettered legend giving
the name of the contents in full and pressure;
b)  Arrows shall be used to indicate direction of flow;
c)  Legends shall be applied close to valves and adjacent to changes in
direction,
branches and where pipes pass through walls or floors and at frequent
intervals
on straight pipe runs (sufficient to identify clearly);
d)  Identification may be accomplished by stenciling, the use of tape or
markers;
e)  Where pipe lines are located above the normal line of vision the
lettering shall be
placed  below the horizontal centerline of the pipe;
f)  Maximum contrast shall be provided between color field and legend for
readability.
For flammable or explosive materials the colors shall be yellow and black;
g)  Use of letters of standard style, in sizes 1/2" and larger is
recommended as required
by ANSI A13.1-1975, Scheme for the Identification of Piping Systems,
Sections
3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4.
