Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which
were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were
exposed to a fall hazard while working on a Marklift brand
self-propelled scissor lift:
(a)  1/6/92, Inside first floor near Kitchen Mechanical Room,
an employee was exposed to a fall hazard of approximately
12' while he stood on the railing of a Marklift Model #
J20NEP scissor lift.  One feasible and acceptable abatement
method would be to insure the employee stands firmly on
the floor of the lift as described in ANSI 92.6 1979
Section 14.2.6 and the operators manual Page 1 Item 4.
(b)  Inside first floor near the Kitchen Mechanical Room,
an employee was exposed to a fall hazard of approximately
9' while he worked near the open end of a Marklift Model
# J20NEP scissor lift. One feasible and acceptable abatement
method to correct the hazard would be to insure that the
open end is effectively closed with the chains provided,
as described in ANSI 92.6 1979 Section 14.2.2/5 and the
operators manual Page 1 Item 4.
