Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to serious fall hazards while welding open web bar joists and sections of bridging, where fall protection was not provided to prevent falls in excess of 20 feet to the ground level below. One feasible method among other methods to correct the hazard would be to have the employees fasten the lanyard of a safety belt to structurally sound members of the building. Jobsite: Roof level of the building area; Employees were exposed to serious fall hazards while welding open web bar joists and metal bridging, and while standing on the joists where decking had not yet been installed, and were not provided fall protection; such as, safety belts and lanyards, attached to structurally sound section of the building to prevent falls in excess of 20 feet to ground level below.
