Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to toxic fumes, fire or explosion hazards: Water Treatment Room: On or about May 10, 1996, employees were exposed to toxic fumes, fire or explosion hazards resulting from 30 gallons of sulfuric acid and 55 gallons of Polyhydroxy aluminum chloride (Midfloc), also an acid, was in use next to 55 gallons of 50sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfide, both strong alkalis. Note:ONE FEASIBLE METHOD OF ABATEMENT TO CORRECT THE HAZARD IS TO SEPARATE ACIDS FROM ALKALIS.
