What this inspection record means

OSHA opens inspections for many reasons — routine scheduling under a national or local emphasis program, an employee complaint or referral, or a follow-up after a reported injury. Opening or conducting an inspection is not itself an allegation or a finding that this employer broke any rule; any findings appear as the citations listed below, and citations can be contested, reduced, or withdrawn.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the hazard of falling from a moving vehicle:
(a) Warehouse Drive near Orange Lake Blvd., the rear of the GMC laundry
truck was used to
transport employees as well as materials. The rear of the truck had no
seats which were firmly
secured and adequate for the number of employees to be transported.
Employees rode at the
rear open door with their feet on the loading ramp, on or about l2/29/97.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this is to
prohibit riding in vehicles which lack firmly secured seats adequate for
the number of persons
to be transported and to require vehicle occupants to remain in these
seats with their extremities
inside the vehicle while it is in motion. For guidance please refer to
the Accident Prevention
Manual, Engineering & Technology, National Safety Council, 10th Edition,
1992, Pages 35 and
36.
